Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is a non-profit that advocates for the creation of a world-class park to reflect the history and character of the Brooklyn waterfront and serve the people of the new York City region and beyond. The Conservancy seeks a Major Gifts Officer to lead fundraising efforts that will engage high-end donors ($5000+) and support the Conservancy’s annual operating budget ($3 million and growing).
The Major Gifts Officer will be primarily responsible for managing a portfolio of high level donors and prospects on behalf of the Conservancy and upgrading current donors to Major Donor levels. The Major Gifts Officer will work directly with the Executive Director and the Director of Development.
The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for acquiring, cultivating, and soliciting donors and prospects with potential to give $1500 or more annually, with heightened focus on individual giving and upgrading donors to Major Donor levels ($5000+). This includes managing all interactions with donors such as face-to-face meetings, cultivation events, and direct solicitations.
The Major Gifts Officer will work to expand the Conservancy’s Leadership Program and will report to the Director of Development, helping to plan and execute a wide variety of development relationships and activities.
The Major Gifts Officer will support and manage annual solicitation of donors, including identifying and securing major donor prospect meetings for senior staff and organizational leadership, as well as ensuring that all activities are entered in the database to guarantee the quality of communication and donor records.
The Major Gifts Officer will work with Conservancy leadership to set and meet annual income goals for major gifts prospects.
The Major Gifts Officer will manage the Conservancy’s fundraising events, including coordinating leadership and host committees, serving as contact for event consultants and program staff, maintaining ticket sales and check-in lists, and following up with acknowledgements and collections.
The Major Gifts Officer will direct/assist on other events, community outreach, programs, and activities as needed.
Several years of experience in a not-for-profit fundraising setting.
A demonstrated ability to handle significant responsibility independently.
A successful track record of closing high-level solicitations.
Skills in developing long-term donor cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Excellent writing and communications skills.
Knowledge of park, open space, and environmental funding a plus.
Knowledge of the Brooklyn funding community a plus.
The ability to juggle many projects while working in a small, fast-paced office.
A commitment to the Conservancy’s mission and an understanding of its programs.
High level of creativity and initiative; a team player with a sense of humor.
The ability to work nights and weekends, as required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Raisers Edge a must.
Bachelors Degree required; academic history in fundraising management a plus.
