Job Description: 
Row New York (www.rownewyork.org) is a unique non-profit organization which transforms the lives of New Yorkers, regardless of ability or background, through the discipline of rowing combined with comprehensive academic support. Our student-athlete population reflects enormous ethnic and racial diversity, as well as the mutually beneficial integration of teens from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. Our free and low-cost programs serve over 2,000 young people annually, empowering them to build strength, gain confidence, and pursue excellence through intensive rowing and academic programming. We also offer para-rowing for youth and adults with disabilities, summer camps, fitness classes, adult rowing instruction from introductory to competitive levels, and corporate team-building workshops. Position Summary: Row New York (RNY) seeks an individual with an interest in non-profit development to assist the development and communications team in raising funds to support a rapidly expanding non-profit organization and expand our donor base and visibility. The Development Coordinator will report to the Director of Development and Communications and work closely with colleagues on the development team and beyond, including the Communications Coordinator and the Foundations and Government Relations Manager. This role will actively participate in all stages of fundraising strategy including research on individuals, meeting preparation, acknowledgements, grant management, and more. A successful Development Coordinator is motivated, hardworking, and wants to take advantage of this invaluable opportunity to contribute to the success of Row New York’s growth in a meaningful way. Key Responsibilities: Research new sources of funding (foundation, individual, corporate, and government) Prepare the Director of Development & Communications and Grants Manager for meetings by conducting research on potential funders, setting reminders, and preparing relevant materials Manage calendars for the development and communications team Update Salesforce with information on individuals, foundations, and corporations to maintain an accurate record of funding sources Track and acknowledge all donations and corporate gifts Deposit checks and work with the operations team to manage spending on restricted funding Prepare press packets with materials including the annual report, recent blogs, program highlights, and business cards Work with the Operations and Evaluation Manager to compile statistics on the dozens of schools and communities we serve Gather and summarize seasonal and annual evaluation results Assist with grant applications and reporting Liaise with program staff to secure information needed for effective grant applications and timely reports Assist in site visits from foundations and individuals as needed Assist in the mailing of invitations, acknowledgements, appeals, and gifts throughout the year Attend events to represent Row New York, engage with potential funders, and network as needed Assist with the Annual Fall Benefit and other fundraising events as needed Qualifications: Bachelor's degree Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written Warm and engaging phone manner Strong writing and organizational skills Skilled at prioritizing multiple assignments and meeting tight deadlines Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative and ability to work individually and on a team Experience working with databases (Salesforce knowledge a huge plus) Results-driven team player who thrives in an authentic, feedback-driven culture Ability to communicate with sensitivity and to work with diverse populations Knowledge and eagerness to learn in the realms of education, poverty, youth services, and people with disabilities Strong references from direct supervisor(s) Commitment to the mission of Row New York and a passion for helping youth succeed Compensation and Benefits: Row New York is committed to creating a culture that is supportive of learning, growth, and staff development.
